Enjoy Your Holiday in Bulgaria - Our Advice
Money and Banking
We have discovered that you get a better rate of exchange if you bring English notes and exchange them in the local bank. However you will need some Leva before you leave for your taxi and first night out. Most banks are situated near to the Diamant Hotel (its turquoise) on the main street. The main street is behind Hotel Poseidon and runs parallel to the beachfront promenade separated by hotels and restaurants.
Eating Out
It is amazingly cheap to eat and drink out and you will find that a couple of streets back from the beach is much cheaper than the beachfront bars and restaurants. For example a beer may range from £1 on the beach to 30p a few streets back. Order Bulgarian vodka or Gin – its half the price and just as good.
In the restaurants most of the menus have photographs of the dish which is helpful. Everything is ordered individually, for example if you order meat you have to choose which type of potatoes you want separately.
The range of salads are great as well, and you get large helpings – too much usually for one. It is common for a meal for 4 adults including wine to be around £25-£30 pounds.
It is common to give a 10% or so tip, and with those prices that is never usually a problem.
Shopping
Sunny
Many of the shops stock a mix of mens, womens and childerns clothing so it always worth going in for a rummage – you may find an original garment meant for you!
You can find a nice selection of glassware and leather goods here too.
Buses And Taxis
Try to agree a price if you do go for a cab – the drivers can spot a tourist a mile off!
At Panorama and Marina View all you have to do is flag one down – a very cheap way to get to downtown
The bus stops right by Hotel Poseidon at the traffic lights if you are staying there and want to go to Bourgas.
Toilets
Outside of the hotels and apartments you may not find too many nice toilets equal to UK
